Been testing all week and all comes back negative. Waking up to a hot coffee when it occurs to me it’s been 25 years since I graduated high school. Wild. All my hopes and dreams, circa 1997.

A’Courts In America: Day 7 The Voyage Home As t A’Courts In America: Day 7
The Voyage Home

As the sun set on our final day in New York City it was time to make the trip home. We got up early and hit the road and drove as far as Wells, Maine.
We went for dinner at Ryan’s Corner House Irish Pub in Kennebunk. It was a pretty cool hole in the wall and so we added our dollar to the collection. Daniel and Emily got to experience their first dive motel, complete with bedbugs and sketchy “neighbours”. The only thing going for it was the outdoor pool. It was so bad that we slept in our clothes on top of the bed sheets.

4:30 AM came around and we simply couldn’t stay any longer so we got up and hit the road. We drove into Old Orchard Beach to catch the sunrise and grab some breakfast.

We made it to Calais, but it took a real long time to cross the border. Unfortunately there was only one officer posted, despite there being like five other gates. Guess they weren’t expecting traffic haha.

Now, we’re in Saint John and the sun has set on our amazing family vacation. So many wonderful experiences and memories all from one week.

I can’t believe after all these years I finally got to experience a taste of NY and I’m so happy it was with my family for their first time too!!

A’Courts In America: Day 6 Last day in New York A’Courts In America: Day 6
Last day in New York City!

Yesterday was our last full day in NYC so we did our best to make it count. First order of business: stuff our faces full of waffles at Bryant Park. Em has spied this little waffle shop days before and somehow knew “fate” would lead us back before our exodus!! Oh my freaking gawd they were amazing!!! I ordered the maple bourbon waffle with candied bacon and it was mind blowing. I loved that the lady prepping them, literally flame broiled the bacon with a butane burner. It was perfect!

Then, as you do, Daniel and Emily proceed to rock a light-sabre battle to warm things up.

Afterwards we hopped a train uptown to take a walk through Central Park. We stopped to visit Belvedere Castle and visit with some very nice turtles.

The heat and humidity finally came to a head and the thunder and lightning began right in the middle of the city. The lightning was striking so close to us, there was no time to count how far away the thunder would be. It was on top of us!!! Sadly, I didn’t snag any photos of that as we were running for cover from the torrents of rain pouring down.

Things did calm back down and Emily and Daniel went for a walk to both the Hershey and the Disney stores and well, came back with stuff!!!

To finish off our stay, we went around the corner to Connolly’s Pub for a beer and some grub and recount all the things we did and seen the last few days.

Tomorrow, we drive back to Maine!

A’Courts In America: Day 5 Birthday Edition Ye A’Courts In America: Day 5
Birthday Edition

Yesterday was Emily’s birthday, one of the reasons we chose to go big or go home with our family vacation.

As a side perk for me, I had the real pleasure of finally meeting a fellow Twitch music streamer @thejukesters Kenny Friedman (aka kennysprogrockjukebox on Twitch). Over my last three years of streaming on Twitch, I’ve connected with amazing musicians from around the world. Sadly, I’m so geographically removed from mostly all of them that if I have chance to meet any of them in person, yeah I’m taking it. Kenny is a helluva musician with chops for days which likely explains why there’s so little room left in his cache for knowing much about the city his lived in/around his whole life (hahahaha inside joke). He was adamant he would be horrible as a tour guide, but as a musician he was able to tell me where the best parking was, which venues had the best load-ins, and which hotels had the nicest maître d’s were. Kenny is very gracious and it was awesome to get hang for a little bit.

When we got back to the hotel, there was a beautiful little birthday treat waiting for Em. Her dear friend @daphneaweatherby had arranged for cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery to be sent to the room. We had just walked passed there days before peering through the window and admiring their handy work.

As the night descended it was time for Broadway!!! We went to take in The Lion King at the Minskoff Theatre. To say it was spectacular is an understatement. This production knocked it out of the park. Obviously we couldn’t take photos during the show but at intermission Daniel was able to snag a few pics of the pit band area in front of the stage. It was so well mixed and the set pieces were excellently designed.

A’Courts In America: Day 4

Sightseeing Day

It’s been a crazy heat wave here in NYC this week. Shade is definitely our friend but that’s hard to find when you’re at the top of some of the highest skyscrapers in the city.

We started out by going to Edge in Hudson Yards. It’s observation deck sticks out from the building 100 storeys in the sky. Absolutely stunning views.

From the sky we turned to water by going on a cruise of the Hudson out into the harbour to visit Liberty Island. The breeze was a welcome treat to the 30°+C temps. It was so cool to see the city from the water. Great perspective.

When we docked back at the pier, it was time to check out the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Daniel got to stand on the flight deck next to his all time favourite plane, the Lockheed A-12.

Then it was back to land, briefly as we travelled downtown to visit the One World Observatory at Freedom Tower. It was stunning to see the views and to experience the city from this vantage.
I managed to snap a pic with Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges, although at this height of the ground it’s not hard to do.

We finished our day by stopping at the 9/11 Reflecting Ponds to pay our respects and for Emily and I to think back on those days.

It’s been such a great trip so far and there’s so much more to experience.

A’Courts In America: Day 3 Our first full day i A’Courts In America: Day 3

Our first full day in NYC yesterday and it was a rollercoaster of heat, humidity and thunderstorms!! Walking around Times Square during the day and again at night, what a huge difference in vibe!! Both happening, but one is dialed in and the other is unleashed.

Hit up 30Rock and enjoyed the fountain. The architecture is so awe-inspiring to take in. Checked out toy stores, local restaurants and Daniel had churros for the first time.

We made it to midnight when at 11:57PM, dozens of the billboards in Times Square synchronized for a 3 minute show. We’re all having such an amazing time, and I have way more photos.

Wait till I post the photos from today’s adventures!!
